Comfy Commuter is a small business started by a mother and daughter. All products are made in the USA. Uncomfortable travel experiences combined with an unplanned personal challenge provided Ana Rojas the perfect opportunity to create a long envisioned travel pillow. Her daughter, Linda Hernandez, joined her in the venture. It was their belief that customers could and should have a comfortable travel experience.
The development of “the” pillow became sort of an obsession for the mother daughter team. Family and friends became accustomed to participating in testing and discussions related to the pillow. Ana Rojas purchased a real airplane seat to design and test the products. The pillow and testing became such a common sight in their home that Linda’s one-year old daughter would often sit on the airplane seat in the dining room and place the pillow on her head without encouragement.
Ana Rojas searched extensively for the right fabrics and fill. Every aspect of the pillow was extensively tested. For example, the fabrics were washed, dried, stretched in all manners possible, and even burned to verify content. Feedback was obtained from friends, family, acquaintances, fellow plane passengers, pilots and flight attendants. Their dog, Missy, even tested the product as her toy– unbeknownst to Ana and Linda at the time. Yes, it passed that test also.
A travel blanket was later added in response to feedback that would be lightweight, warm, washable and practical. A common problem experienced by most travelers is that blankets fall off easily. A practical design was inspired and later created after a visit to Ana's hairdresser. Ana Rojas realized that the drape used during a haircut stayed in place very nicely. The concept was adapted to a travel blanket so that tips of the blanket drape over the shoulders and back. It is a simple but perfect solution that leverages body weight to keep the blanket in place. The blanket is also contoured to avoid dragging on the floor.
The mother-daughter tested the blanket. One day, the blanket was taken to the movie theatre. Ana forgot her sweater and used the blanket as a cape. This use for the blanket was confirmed through feedback from a woman who saw the product at a fundraiser for Women's Economic Ventures.
An important consideration in product development was maintaining affordability while maintaining quality. Product materials are purchased and manufactured in or near the Los Angeles Garment District, thus allowing for the best in products at competitive prices.
Ana and Linda also wanted an environmentally-friendly product so you will notice that the product has no frilly packaging to be tossed aside.
Therefore, after many, many, versions of the pillow, different fabrics, and much feedback, Comfy Commuters are proud to offer a comfortable and practical travel pillow. It is Ana and Linda’s strong desire that you have a most comfortable travel experience using their products.
